A new bedtime story collection gives families a simple, heartfelt way to wind down the day together.
Bedtime can be a struggle for many families, but a new children’s book aims to make the nightly routine something kids look forward to. Melanie Lewis has released Memaw’s 20 Bedtime Stories with Animal Friends, a collection written to give parents and grandparents a simple way to wind down the day with their little ones.
The book gathers twenty short stories, each centered on a different animal character facing everyday situations with humor and heart. From a hardworking alpaca crew to a mouse doctor with an unusual bedside manner, every tale offers a gentle dose of imagination without asking too much of a tired child’s attention span. The stories are short enough to fit into a real bedtime routine, yet full enough to spark a child’s curiosity about the animal world around them.
Lewis, who goes by “Memaw” to her grandchildren, wrote the collection after years of telling them bedtime stories. Raised in a small Iowa town with a lifelong love of animals and the outdoors, she shaped each story from that same affection, weaving it into characters kids can root for. The collection reflects a desire many grandparents share: to pass down warmth, laughter, and a love of nature through the simple act of a bedtime story.
Parents searching for new read-aloud material often face the same problem: stories that are either too long for a tired child or too thin to hold their interest. Memaw’s 20 Bedtime Stories with Animal Friends solves that by giving families twenty separate, complete stories they can pick up in any order, any night, without losing the thread of a longer book. That flexibility makes it a practical fit for busy households juggling school nights, sleepovers, or visits with grandparents.
The book also gives grandparents a way to stay closely connected to grandchildren who may live far away, offering a shared story to read together during visits or over video calls. Its lighthearted animal characters and easy-to-follow plots make it accessible for early readers as well, so children can eventually read the stories on their own.
Memaw’s 20 Bedtime Stories with Animal Friends is now available for families looking to add a little more warmth, laughter, and animal charm to their nightly routine.
