Dundee, Scotland – How Witches Get Their Broomsticks: The Gathering by John McIntyre is an enchanting new children’s fantasy that proves magic is best served with laughter, friendship, and a touch of Scottish charm. Written with warmth and wit, this illustrated chapter book follows Val Witch, her talking cat Magnificent, and an overly enthusiastic broomstick named Rodney through a series of misadventures that will delight readers of all ages.
When Val is invited to the Great Witches’ Gathering on the Isle of Skye, her dreams and her patience are put to the test. Between chaotic flying lessons, stubborn companions, and the occasional crash landing, Val discovers that courage, teamwork, and humour can carry you further than any spell. McIntyre’s tale blends playful fantasy with gentle life lessons about resilience and friendship, making it both meaningful and fun.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Scotland, the story captures the heart of traditional storytelling while adding a fresh, modern voice. McIntyre’s writing celebrates imperfection and kindness, teaching young readers that even witches and talking cats have bad days, and that’s perfectly fine.
Beyond the laughter and magical mayhem, How Witches Get Their Broomsticks: The Gathering stands as a testament to the joy of imagination and the strength of simple goodness. It is an ideal read for middle-grade children aged 7–12, families seeking heartfelt bedtime stories, and anyone who enjoys whimsical adventures filled with warmth and laughter.
John McIntyre, whose own life journey from truck driver to storyteller is as inspiring as his fiction, has created a world where humour and heart take centre stage. With Scottish roots and universal themes, this story promises to charm readers far beyond the Highlands.
