International leadership consultant and transformational coach Mfon Ekpo, founder of The Discovery Centre, has been honoured with the Outstanding Contribution Alumni Award by the University of Southampton, the highest recognition granted by the institution in its 163-year history.
This unprecedented distinction celebrates Ms. Ekpo’s two-decade journey of global impact, from humble beginnings in Nigeria to the world stage, where she has influenced thousands through leadership development, behavioral transformation, and vision-driven coaching.
“I was told I had to play the hand I was dealt in life, until I realized I didn’t have to,” said Ms. Ekpo in her rousing commencement address. “I could throw those cards back on life’s table and demand a new hand.”
The audience erupted in a standing ovation as she urged graduates and faculty alike to challenge inherited narratives and embrace possibility over limitation.
A Global Force for Transformation
Ms. Ekpo’s legacy of impact spans continents. She was part of the inaugural class of President Barack Obama’s Mandela Washington Fellowship, later receiving honorary citizenship in the State of Arkansas. She has led national leadership initiatives across Guatemala, Paraguay, and Costa Rica through the John Maxwell Team, serving on its President’s Advisory Council.
Through The Discovery Centre, her flagship personal transformation institute, Ms. Ekpo empowers individuals to decode resistance, dismantle limiting beliefs, and architect sustainable lives rooted in purpose and possibility.
She has received recognition from the British Council, was named one of Nigeria’s 100 Most Inspiring Women by Leading Ladies Africa, and has guided thousands of leaders across Africa, Europe, and North America.
Joining Global Icons
With this award, Mfon Ekpo joins an elite list of University of Southampton alumni that includes Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web, and Adrian Newey, the legendary Formula 1 engineer.
Her transformative work has positioned her as a symbol of visionary courage and intentional change.
