The lush greenery of Mount Yuelu contrasts with the glistening lake, while the minimalist elegance of Yunshang Bridge at the lake’s center mirrors the curves of the hills. Along the shoreline, cafés and art studios line the paths, creating a rich, creative atmosphere.
Houhu is a hub of cultural richness. Over 20 venues, including the Hunan Art Museum, form a thriving ecosystem where more than 100 artists, including Zhu Xunde, live and work. The lakeside buzzes with youthful energy during music festivals and lawn art seasons. Just recently, a contemporary art invitational exhibition brought together over 20 artists from China, Germany, Thailand, and Singapore. Their cross-disciplinary work, created on-site, transformed the lake into a “borderless art lab” full of boundless creativity.
Right next to Houhu lies the Yuelu Mountain University Science and Technology City. Research institutes and tech companies, including the R&D headquarters of the Central South University Science Park, shine brightly. The lake’s 561-acre waterway links three major universities—Central South University, Hunan University, and Hunan Normal University—making young Chinese and international talents the driving force behind Houhu’s continued growth.
