Be prepared to laugh, cry and most importantly, learn!
What inspired you to write “What I’ve Learned From Attending Over 40 Indy 500s: Lessons in Sales, Motivation, Leadership, Management, and Life in General?”
I am a motivational speaker, sales trainer, and author. To date, I have attended over 40 Indy 500s, as well as over 200 other Indy car races.
As time went on, I found myself telling stories about my experiences. I would tell a story about something I witnessed or experienced at the Indy 500, and then I would explain how a lesson was learned by that experience. It became apparent to me that when I told a story and presented the lesson learned, people in the audience would perk up and become more attentive. I was able to transfer my excitement about the Indy 500 and its applicability to life to the audience. They always loved it and still do. The fact that my stories resonate with others makes sense to me. When I tell you something that has happened to me, you will see that I am very much like you and that if my methods are based on true life experiences, they can and will work for you.
Ultimately, my goal is to help people reach their full potential, so after much encouragement from others who wanted me to share these stories and their many lessons, I wrote the book to help people understand what it takes to become the best versions of themselves.
How did you feel when you found out you received a Book Excellence Award?
After writing for 37 years, it felt wonderful to be recognized for my work. I’m honored to have received this prestigious award.
How did your background and experience influence your writing?
My experience comes from being in the trenches. I am in my 37th year of doing business and have spent the greater part of that time standing side-by-side with sales professionals, successfully training them in the art of selling, customer service, customer retention, and communication.
My passion is the Indy 500. After attending over 40 races, I have learned key lessons about sales, motivation, leadership, management, and life in general. These great races, the drivers, the team owners, the track itself, and the many support players have helped me shape the successful personal and business life that I so enjoy today.
I love talking about this event and sharing stories about my experiences. This, combined with my professional background, led me to write this book.
What is one message you would like readers to remember?
If you pay attention to life as it happens around you, whether it be a sporting event, life event, political event, historical event or social event, you can learn real lessons that, when applied to your life, can propel you to achieve incredible success.
So, ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! Start living life and start learning!
