Pharmacy Stars, a leading provider of compounding compliance solutions, announces the expansion of its Sterile Compounding Expert Panel (SCXP) with the appointment of two distinguished experts in the field. This strategic move reaffirms Pharmacy Stars’ commitment to advancing sterile compounding practices and ensuring the highest standards of pharmacy safety.
In July 2022, Pharmacy Stars established the SCXP with the aim of fostering collaboration among experts in cleanroom design, industrial hygiene, engineering, infection prevention, pharmaceutical microbiology, pharmacy technology and sterile compounding in various healthcare settings.
The newly appointed members, Fred Massoomi, Pharm.D., BCSCP, FASHP, and Clinton Meachum, CSPT, PMP, bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the panel. Fred Massoomi is a seasoned pharmacist with a focus on medication safety, hazardous drug handling, and medication management automation. Clinton Meachum, a certified sterile compounding professional, has over a decade of experience as a pharmacy technician, championing quality assurance and process improvement.
Fred Massoomi expressed his enthusiasm for joining the SCXP, stating, “The evolution of medication management is an ongoing process demanding constant diligence and review to ensure the safety of both patients and healthcare providers. Learning in this field is a collaborative effort, and the collective experiences of healthcare providers contribute to the development of best practices yet to be fully defined. Being a member of the SCXP provides me with the opportunity to actively engage in this collaborative learning process, aligning with my personal mission to assist healthcare providers and patients in achieving the safest therapies possible. I am honored to be invited to contribute to this esteemed panel.”
Clinton Meachum, as the first pharmacy technician member of the SCXP, brings a unique perspective to the panel. He shared his passion for sterile compounding and quality assurance, stating, “I believe in a just culture and continuous process improvement regarding patient safety. I am excited to share my experiences and to lift and support other pharmacy professionals as the first pharmacy technician member of the SCXP.”
These appointments build upon the foundation laid in July 2022, when Pharmacy Stars initially announced the establishment of the SCXP and appointed key members. The inaugural panel included experts such as Ghalib Abbasi, Gina Bliss, Howard Cohen, Herschell Hitchcock, Christine Hong, Stephen Milstead, and Keith St. John.
Pharmacy Stars CEO Keith Streckenbach expressed gratitude for the commitment of the panel members, stating, “These appointees have brought deep expertise, valuable skills, and crucial diversity to the SCXP for strengthening sterile compounding practices. As we expand the panel, we continue our mission to ensure that all compounders can efficiently and consistently prepare accurate, sterile compounded preparations.”
The SCXP, reminiscent of the United States Pharmacopeia Expert Compounding Committee, reflects a diverse group of experts guiding the industry through the complexities of sterile compounding.
