Annette Sollars is the owner of Eye Want, Eyeporium Gallery, and Eyepothecary.
All 3 shops in one location have become a museum of eye oddities and a visual paradise for healthwear, in the healthcare industry. Sollars is at the forefront leading major design houses with the finest production in eyewear, healthwear, and medical devices. Sollars has turned the mundane into the sought after in prescription wearables and devices into a one stop shop for your healthwear needs and services.
Her innovative formula cancels the diehard blandie’s vanilla boxes and optometry outlets turning them into dinosaurs. Further distinguishing the sorry availability of dull, boring, and lifeless into transforming sculpture, fine jewelry, and fine art, bringing fashion-forward solutions to enhance, cover, or accent any disability, deformity, or disruption people experience when they have chronic health conditions such as: visual impairment, visual deformity, or visual disability by bringing fine art to health care and healthwear.
Eye Want
Eye Want was established in 1997 and received an international press article in the publication of Home and Away magazine about her historic signage of a 10-foot-long cat eye frame that is now recognized as an international landmark in the eyewear industry and beyond.
Eye Want sells the finest prescription eyewear, with collections ranging from 1900’s through modern day, with original, vintage, uncirculated, on-of-a-kind sculptures featuring artisans from the finest design houses around the world.
Eye Want designs and manufactures its house eyewear collection, called “ReSpecs,” in addition, Sollars has also designed 3 specialty collections.
“Blindside,” for people who are blind in one eye or have to patch one eye, including eye patches for children and adults to cover or enhance deformities of the eye and surrounding orbit.
“StareOids” is a specialty collection for individuals with very large heads. born from her nephew that is a powerlifter and hangs with a crew of very large men.
“Double Vision” is a specialty collection combining 2 sets of lenses in one frame for those who wear bifocals or multi focals in one utility pair.
Eyeporium Gallery
In 2007, Sollars made another innovative bold move by removing her examination rooms and delivering Eyeporium Gallery to the consuming public as another strategic move in her vision of delivering fine art combining fine art in healthcare and healthwear.
Eyeporium Gallery held art exhibitions about every 5 weeks for almost a decade representing at least 100 artists of local and international renown.
Eyepothecary
Eyepothecary is the culmination and collective of Annette’s 3 businesses and her life’s body of work. At the young age of 15, Sollars was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis, an aggressive form that resulted in joint surgery, complete with arthroplasty replacement by her early 20s. She still suffers grievously today. 30-plus years ago was when Sollars started wearing compression garments, and whatever she could find, in her mission to cover, help, and heal her considered deformities, scars, and anomalies.
In the condos of her brain, compression garments were unknowingly forming. With one of the trips to the mayo clinic she received a sweat shirt that said ‘repaired in Rochester.’ Sollars has been swimming and at times drowning in her inventive self. She worked her way through the rungs of ophthalmology, absorbing anatomy and physiology of the eye, Sollars has a comprehensive understanding of the human body stemming from her own health history, and a learned know how of mastering ophthalmics and ophthalmology, working in multi-specialty clinics and hospitals.
In 2007, Sollars and her husband went through the process of in vitro fertilization. Sadly, an undiagnosed mutation of the BRC2A gene surfaced delivering breast cancer instead of a baby after undergoing 2 rounds of unexplained infertility delivered highly hormone reactive breast cancer and no bundle of joy. In 2009, Grievous health issues arrived leading to the diagnosis of breast cancer; treatment started in 2010. Undeterred, all of the treatments, surgeries, and chemotherapy brought new clarity to Sollars’ inventive mind. Furthermore, she started developing her compression garments and other medical devices. Sollars is a mentor Angel for other women suffering with breast cancer.
EyeFi (Eye need Finance)
To date, Sollars has filed for 9 patents, 6 medical devices and 3 tech start ups, and she has 5 more in wait and development. Sollars is seeking funding from venture investors, angel investors, physicians in ophthalmology, and other allied health personnel.
Sharks are of particular interest: Sarah Blakley from SPANX for compression garments, Lori Greiner for the patented medical devices — she is from Chicago. Robert Herjavec for the tech start-ups, and, Sollars said, “Since I am the ‘queen of mean,’ it’s only appropriate I attach myself to Mr wonderful only if he will give me the time of day.” Lastly, Daymond John, also from Chicago, for the men’s healthwear division, and for the African American crew who are currently discriminating against the white chic, others in business are of particular interest. “Marcus Lemonis — The Fixer can instruct me on how to get along with others including family members,” Sollars said.
Eye Level
I touched many in 27 years with one mission “Health Matters” “All Eyes Matter” and in healthwear “this mission matters” because when it comes to healthcare ‘YOU MATTER MOST’.
