On a cold January morning I had the opportunity to catch up with Karina as she was heading to Park City for The Sundance Film Festival. Last year, she attended the festival and participated in a panel called “Her Story Our Story” for the film “Christmas Couples Retreat,” produced by Five Arts Films. This year, Karina is excited to immerse herself in the festival, watching films and attending various events. She sees Sundance as a chance to reconnect with friends, explore new projects, and prepare for the upcoming year.
Karina has achieved notable success with her previous films, and she is eagerly anticipating the release of her two latest documentaries, “The Way Home” and “Heart of FL: PD,” both centered in central Florida. She felt a strong calling to step into these roles and tell the stories of her local community, as giving back is important to her. Karina expresses gratitude for the tremendous support she has received from Haines City and The Northeast Polk Chamber of Commerce. Michel says, “It has been a wonderful experience, and I’m enthusiastic about bringing these stories to a larger audience.”
In recognition of her local contributions, Karina was recently presented with a Paul Fellow Award, one of Rotary’s most prestigious honors. To Karina, it is a reminder that even small acts of goodwill can make a significant impact. This recognition has inspired her to do even more in her community and beyond, continuing to make a positive difference.
