Over the last several decades, automotive engineers and manufacturers have developed numerous safety features to lessen the impacts of crashes and even help keep them from happening. While seat belts are among the first widespread safety features, airbags soon followed. Airbags first became available as a costly optional add-on in the 1970s, but they quickly became standard equipment.
Why Is My Airbag Light On?
Airbags have saved countless lives at this point, and they’ll continue to do so moving forward. As many vehicle owners will testify, though, those now-standard safety tools can also cause certain problems. For one, the airbag warning lights in dashboards and onboard computers are notorious for making their presence known to drivers seemingly without reason. One can follow this article source to learn more.
Minor Accidents
Vehicles are equipped with sensors that can detect impacts. During a crash, those sensors alert the airbags that it’s time to deploy. If a crash is relatively minor, though, it may not produce enough of an impact to cause the airbags to inflate. Still, the force of the accident could be enough to upset the sensors. In cases like those, the sensors could cause the airbag light to stay on until they’re reset.
Malfunctioning Sensors
Sometimes, those sensors that detect crashes simply go bad. When that happens, they may detect problems with the airbags that don’t actually exist. If so, they’ll cause the airbag light to remain illuminated. Here, the solution would be to replace the faulty sensors according to realtimecampaign.com and countless automotive experts.
Damaged Airbag Components
Many people find themselves asking, “Why won’t my truck’s airbag warning light go out?” If the problem doesn’t lie in the sensors, it could be caused by damaged components in the airbags themselves. Several parts work together to keep the airbags intact and ensure they deploy when needed. If any of those wear out or break, the airbag warning light points out the issue.
Seat Belt Problems
In certain instances, an airbag warning light may not be due to a problem with the airbags or their sensors at all. Instead, it could indicate a problem with a seat belt. Seat belts are designed to automatically lock in place if there’s a sudden loss of forwarding momentum. That happens when drivers suddenly hit the brakes and during crashes. If the components that cause the seat belts to lock are damaged, the airbag light may come on.
Keeping Vehicles Safe and Airbag Lights Off
Companies like Safety Restore have equipment that’s designed to determine the exact reason an airbag light is sending out a warning. From there, they can resolve the problem. In turn, the airbag light will go off, and the vehicle’s safety features will be ready to spring into action when needed.
Some drivers find those warning lights downright distracting. Please understand, though, that they come on for a reason: they’re indicating that the airbags or seat belts may not work properly during a crash. Though simply placing a piece of electrical tape over the light to hide it may be a tempting prospect, it’s certainly not the best solution.
