One can readily find magazines that are primarily set up to promote Fortune 500s and other big businesses. It becomes a whole different ballgame when looking for magazines that cater to small business owners or even minorities as the one that exists are few and far between. In a bid to change this narrative, however, Sadie Pegues-Hall has come up with a magazine to support a badly neglected demographic.
Meet The Woman Behind The Business magazine is a black-owned publication that is designated to showcase black women small business owners. According to Sadie who describes the magazine as a movement, a magazine of this type is long overdue. “This platform is all about supporting black women small, business owners. Black women are so overdue a platform for people to connect with us. Meet The Woman Behind The Business magazine removes stereotypes and allows all people to connect with black women on a broader level,” Sadie says.
She further believes that this magazine will create more opportunities for consumers and businesses interested in doing business with black women. This is in addition to seeing black women as the leaders and entrepreneurs that they have always been.
A businesswoman, Yana Dai of Just A Twist Cocktails shares her experience of being featured in the magazine. “Being included in Meet the Woman Behind the Business magazine and network means that being in a world where not being seen or heard as a black woman is a thing, is no longer my truth. It means I’m recognized. I’m heard. I’m seen. I’m surrounded by strong black women and we all are heard. It means my ancestors’ labor was not in vain. My mark has been created and I only go up from here. It only takes one person and for me, it’s my sis, Mrs. Sadie Says It All!”
