There’s a fresh, new product designed to assist busy parents in holding their little ones close that is popping up on the radar of new moms across the globe. Mom inventor, Lawren Bennett, had the idea after the birth of her fourth child, “I absolutely loved baby-wearing, but I wasn’t satisfied with the products available. I found myself desperately searching for a product that simply did not exist. I loved the sling concept most, but I was tired of the constant adjusting, stiff fabrics, and/or prep work involved. I craved soft, stretchy, and instant.” Lawren developed a solution for herself, with no intention of starting a business, but it didn’t take long to see that she wasn’t the only one that loved the idea. “I would be walking through Target and have moms chasing me down to ask what I was using, claiming that it looked so much more comfortable and easier than what they were using.” It became clear over time, that other parents would greatly benefit from her invention, and the move towards sharing the concept became inevitable.
Lawren recalls, “It was a full two-year journey before we were ready to officially launch The Hippie Joey Co. and release Joey ‘into the wild’ so to speak. The concept is simple, but the challenges of recreating the magic consistently with different sizes and fabrics were real. And pulling everything together while homeschooling our four little ones brought on an additional set of challenges.”
Joey is unique in its stretchy, minimalistic design and cradles the baby slightly different than a typical baby sling, baby wrap, or carrier. It tends to mimic the stretch and surround of the womb, naturally putting babies at ease and providing instant head support – without any additional tying or wrapping of excess fabric.
On top of its intended purpose as a newborn thru toddler baby assistant, it has served parents as everything from a stylish infinity scarf, a skin-to-skin tank top, a pregnancy/postpartum support band, a nursing assistant, a tube top, and as a pencil skirt ensuring limited waste and ability to re-use The Joey, making it a valuable product to mothers (& caregivers) in all phases of baby rearing. The concept of eco-friendly and low waste remains consistent in their intentional packaging with recycled papers, natural based fabrics, compostable boxes, multipurpose wrappers, & a band that can be used to hold the Joey, as a hair tie, or as a nursing reminder bracelet.
Lawren states, “This is MUCH bigger than just a product and company for me. This has morphed into a mission to support moms both physically through the sharing of Joey, but also emotionally – by showing love, compassion, and respect for their journey and providing them with a product that makes them feel hugged & celebrated.”
