April 5, 2022 – West Olive, Michigan – West Michigan K9 has been recognized as one of the 2022 awardees for the Veteran Owned Small Business of the Year Award, presented by Michigan Celebrates Small Business. West Michigan K9 will be acknowledged on stage at the in-person awards ceremony during the 18th annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business Gala on May 3, 2022.
Success is best when shared, and the event will gather over 800 guests at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan to celebrate the achievements of this year’s award recipients.

We work hard to ensure each client that comes into our facility is treated like family, and feels safe leaving their pet with us,” owner Stephen Parent said. “Whether we are training a family dog, or a police dog, we understand the trust being put in us to do an exceptional job. In some cases, the training we provide, will be used in life and death situations and our expectation is that the dogs we train, do their job without hesitation,” he added. “I was incredibly excited to learn that we had been nominated for the Veteran Owned Small Business of the Year award but finding out we were the recipient of the award, it’s the highlight of my career and our business. A West Michigan Dog Training Business, West Michigan K9 is recognized as one of the fastest growing dog training companies in the Mid-West. West Michigan K9 was incorporated in 2013 and has quickly because a household name and one of the most recommended companies for dog training and behavior modification by veterinarians across Michigan. West Michigan K9 has received accolades from Former President Barack Obama for their work with veterans and their families and the United States Department of Defense in 2021. West Michigan K9 continues to support veterans as well as other government organizations with the acquisition and training for their canines. West Michigan K9 will be opening a new state of the art facility in the summer of 2022.

The 2022 awards gala will put Michigan’s small businesses in the spotlight and give them a chance to share their success stories with the supporters who helped them get to where they are today.

The Veteran Owned Small Business of the Year is a business with at least a 51% ownership share held by a military veteran with a minimum of a “general discharge,” active-duty service member eligible for the military’s Transition Assistance Program, reservists and National Guard members.
To be considered for this award, the company must meet the following for the year ending 2021:
- Staying power, a history as an established business
- Demonstrate stable number of employees
- Financially stable
- Provide employment opportunities for members of the military community
- Demonstrated potential necessary for long-term business success and growth
- Have a positive company culture where employees are valued
- Community engagement, including contributions and volunteerism to aid community-oriented projects
- Voluntary efforts to support veterans directly or issues affecting veterans, including veteran-owned businesses, families of Veterans within the community
