Helmed by the heavily acclaimed Obstetrics and Gynecology expert doctor Greg J. Marchand, the Marchand Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery has recently published its research and meta-analysis of the effects of COVID in Pregnancy.
The Coronavirus has claimed many lives and left even more survivors with crippling diseases, but some may argue that the group most vulnerable to Covid19 was pregnant women. Having a narrower scope of viable options in terms of medical procedures and medication, soon-to-be-mothers were generally advised against taking the vaccine, exposing them to even more risk.
The research was conducted and published by Dr. Marchand and his team via Elsevier Publishing revealed critically important data that anyone can access free of charge on Science Direct’s official website. As for the objective of this research, dr. Marchand stated:
“Covid-19 is a rapidly changing and developing emergency that requires constant re-evaluation of available data. We report a systemic review and meta-analysis based on all published high-quality data up to and including June 3, 2021, on the maternal and neonatal outcomes in pregnant women infected with Covid-19.”
Having compiled reliable data from dependable cohort studies, case-control studies, and medical publications, dr. Marchand’s team combed through “111 studies enrolling 42,754 Covid-19 positive pregnant women.”
The incidence rates on enrolled women were the highest for those who gave birth via cesarean delivery, followed by spontaneous vaginal delivery and operative delivery, while nearly one-fifth of studied patients resulted in low birth weight or premature delivery.
A substantially lower percentage of adverse effects revolved around the vertical transmission of Covid-19, neonatal death, stillbirth, and maternal death, which Dr. Marchand declared “rare adverse events.”
Dr. Marchand’s critical review of Covid-19 Maternal and Neonatal Clinical Features and Pregnancy Outcomes was based on pooled proportions or odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals in meta-analysis models.
