East Dundee, IL – Lande Sanusi, founder of the Yoruba Basics Online School, has been honored with the Distinguished 400 Award for her contributions to African diaspora excellence through cultural education. Yoruba Basics Online School was honored by the 400 Years of African American History Commission and was acknowledged for its role as a trailblazer for African-Americans seeking to connect to their African ancestry and heritage.
Yoruba Basics Online School was founded under the umbrella of Culture of Africa for Kids Everywhere Inc in 2012, by Nigerian-American cultural ambassador, Lande Sanusi. Sanusi sought to educate, empower and connect children with the culture, history, and legacy of Africa through school assemblies, field trips and festivals. With its progressive curriculum, Yoruba Basics School offers interactive courses to guide students learning the history, etiquette, language, and culture of the Yoruba people of West Africa.
The school’s virtual courses also teach learners the Yoruba culture through a unique system of activities which include visuals, performing arts, self-paced learning, and classes led by instructors. Students not only learn about African culture and history, but they help to preserve it.
According to Sanusi, African-Americans around the United States want to reconnect with their African identities. With the American educational system eradicating and ignoring many facets of African American history, innovation, and influence, an education program such as Yoruba Basics’ gives Africans and African-Americans the option to connect to heritage in new ways.
The 400 Distinguished Award Program was formed in 2019 and honors 400 innovative and noteworthy African Americans in a variety of fields. The 400 Commission provides community grants and nonprofit organizations the chance to develop programs. The organization also supports research, publishes, and distributes information about African American history.
Yoruba Basics Online School offers language and culture courses and educational resources learners globally. Classes range in age from as young as four-years-old to adults. The line of educational resources and toys ca be found on Walmart and Amazon.
