LOS ANGELES – Sept. 2, 2020 – For the second consecutive year, Marie B. Maurice of the law firm Ivie McNeill Wyatt Purcell & Diggs has been recognized as part of the annual Power, Leadership, and Influence of the Black Woman event.
Maurice was set to be recognized at the 2020 Power, Leadership, and Influence of the Black Woman event scheduled earlier this year. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and out of an abundance of caution, the event was postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date. The postponement; however, has not stopped Ivie McNeill Wyatt Purcell & Diggs from recognizing their colleague.
Sponsored by Bakewell Media and the Los Angeles Sentinel, the Power, Leadership, and Influence of the Black Woman event was created in 2019 as a tribute to Black women leaders in various fields and industries. The event recognizes and honors motivational and inspirational Black female leaders, both past and present.
Maurice, a Partner and Director at Ivie McNeill Wyatt Purcell & Diggs, was similarly honored for her leadership skills and influence as a Black woman attorney in 2019.
A trial attorney specializing in Labor & Employment, Transportation/Logistics and General Liability, Ms. Maurice joined Ivie McNeill Wyatt Purcell & Diggs, in 2010. In addition to litigation, she advises and counsels clients concerning personnel matters involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination.
She is also Past-President and a long-standing member of the John M. Langston Bar Association, a non-profit, serving the needs of African American attorneys, judges, law students, and community in the Los Angeles area.
“Celebrating women in our community is something we should do often,” according to Rickey Ivie, founding partner of Ivie McNeill Wyatt Purcell & Diggs. “By celebrating and honoring Black women, we gain insights into the inspiration and determination it takes to not only survive in this environment but to thrive. We have so many examples across our communities of that leadership ability and influence, and we’re so proud to have a powerful example right in our own firm in Marie Maurice.”
As part of the Power, Leadership, and Influence of the Black Woman event, several women each year are specifically honored. Special honorees have included Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Oprah Winfrey Network president Tina Perry, and retired LA County Supervisor and founder and executive director of Parents of Watts, Yvonne Brathwaite-Burke.
