As Steve Job once put it across aptly, ‘If you are working on something that you really care about, you don’t have to be pushed. The vision pulls you’. Therefore, finding out what motivates a person to excel in life and at work is crucial to goal achievement. This is the very fundamentals of the EPIC Waves Motivation Theory.
The EPIC Waves Motivation Theory framework was conceptualised in an international setting for universal usage. Riding on the study of waves and particles, the following is a list of the 4 types of waves in general:
1. the Traverse – waves in which particle movement is perpendicular to the direction of the wave propagation
2. the Longitudinal – waves in which particle movement is parallel to the direction of the wave propagation
3. the Tsunami – waves in which particle movement is traced in anti-clockwise circles, as according to the Rayleigh wave definition. Also known as earthquakes waves
4. the Surface – waves in which particle movement is traced in clockwise circles. Also known as tidal waves
The EPIC Waves Motivation Theory categorises almost all factors of motivation into 4 broad categories: the Extrinsic and the Intrinsic, the Personal and the Cohesiveness. Looking at and studying the types of waves with these categories, comparison and similarities have been drawn to produce the EPIC Waves match:
A. Extrinsic motivational factors – requiring external factors to interject and act as a force to propagate a person to work towards a goal. Thus, it matches with the Traverse wave
B. Intrinsic motivational factors – requiring internal, or self-, factors to flow with and act as a force to propagate a person to work towards a goal. Thus, it matches with the Longitudinal wave
C. Personal-led motivational factors – requiring individually-focused factors to act as a force to propagate a person to work towards a goal. Thus, it matches with the Tsunami wave
D. Cohesiveness-led motivational factors – requiring team-focused factors to act as a force to propagate a person to work towards a goal. Thus, it matches with the Surface wave
At the moment, the EPIC Waves Motivation Theory assessment comes in 2 formats: the pen & paper assessment and the assessment through cards. By going through a personal consultation using any of these forms, a person will know which EPIC Waves does he or she innately possessed. By knowing this, the Assessee will then know which aspects of motivation to complement or contrast upon for enhanced motivation to achieve goals and success in life and at work easier, faster and more readily. The Theory will also be looking at an online version in the near future.
For more studies and further research on this theory, the ‘Universal Motivation Concepts’ (UMC) team has been put together to focus on this point. The ‘Motivate Yourself to Success the EPIC Waves Motivational Way!’ book is also in its preparatory stage.
Up to now, the EPIC Waves Motivation Theory has been and/or arranged to be used as a motivational assessment and coaching tool for people in the financial & banking industry, the sales & service industry, the business & management industry, the educational & consultancy industry, the housing & property industry, the medical & equipment industry, the government & public industry, the corporate & private industry, etc.
