THE LONG BEACH MUSEUM OF ART PRESENTS: THE FIRST SOLO RUN OF ADAM HARRISON

Exhibit Will Run from October 4, 2019 – January 12, 2020

Long Beach, CA – The Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA) is pleased to present the extraordinary hyper local work of Adam Harrison.

 

Living and working in Southern California, Adam Harrison has built a practice that redefines traditional methods of portraying a physical space on canvas. Harrison reimagines conventional landscape painting approaches with a unique amalgamation of working from memory and real-life observation. 

 

By spending several months at one site, the artist himself becomes part of the landscape and the community he is working in. The canvas then begins to take the shape of a living journal, documenting not only the physical characteristics of specific places, but also Harrison’s impressions and experiences with them.

 

Place is Adam Harrison’s first institutional solo exhibition. The featured large-scale landscapes focus on locations in Long Beach and San Pedro and immerse viewers in the physical spaces explored by the artist. 

 

 

LBMA Executive Director Ron Nelson stated: “I love that Adam integrates himself into a neighborhood while creating. This enables him to incorporate what he sees into artwork that resonates strongly with the city he inhabits. We’re pleased to present his work in his first museum exhibition.”

The Museum’s Hartman Pavilion, Galleries and the Museum Store are open Thursday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday – Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for students and seniors age 62 and older, free for Members and children under 12. Admission is free for everyone on Thursday evening from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and half price admission all day Friday. Claire’s at the Museum restaurant is open Thursday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
