Ojai, California, USA – July 4, 2019 – Nationally recognized dentist and new Mexican-American novelist, JL Ruiz has been named a three-time finalist for the prestigious International Latino Book Awards. His novel, Irreversible Damage: The Katie Suarez Social Justice Series, received recognition in these categories: Best Young Adult Latino Focused Book; Best Latino Focused Fiction Book; and Best Novel – Adventure or Drama – English. The book’s cover has also been recognized in the Best Cover Illustration category for the cover artwork by artist Ignacio Gomez.
This is the first novel from his new social justice series about the poignant story of a young Mexican-American girl and how the tragedies of life lead her to the path of social justice activism. JL Ruiz relocated to the United States as a young man and began his life as a Mexican immigrant. Facing the challenges and opportunities of living in America, JL contemplated society with an educated eye as he worked hard to make the best of his skills and knowledge. JL Ruiz is a man of dual professions and passions. Born in Mexico City, JL moved to the U.S. after attending one of the Mexico’s most celebrated universities, UNAM. Not only is he a highly in-demand dentist with a portfolio of celebrity clients, he has also done important research within his field and serves as an educator giving monthly seminars. Living, studying, and working in America as an immigrant helped him contemplate society from a unique perspective.
