Pune – 4th Apr, 2022 – In a well-attended ceremony at the MCCI auditorium in Pune, the GTT Foundation launched a path-breaking initiative called ‘WeChimni’ dedicated to helping underserved women in Maharashtra realise their business dreams through a powerfully designed e-commerce portal.
Supported by RBL Bank, WeChimni will help needy women entrepreneurs reach a wide range of customers not only in India but also throughout the world. Through this e-commerce site, women running small home-based businesses will be able to reach a global audience. The main objective of this project is to enable women to display their numerous talents and put to practice their business ideas and realise their dreams of not only financial independence but also help them evolve into successful business women to come true and enable them to stand on their own feet.
A large number of women entrepreneurs were present to laud their journey to empowerment. Speaking on the occasion of the launch of WeChimni platform, Dr. Uma Ganesh, Principal Trustee of GTT Foundation stated,’ WeChimni is a culmination of our digital empowerment efforts over the last four years provided to over 1000 women from humble background. The platform will carry over 300 plus products in food, fashion and handicrafts produced by women owned micro enterprises and will enable them to build sustainable livelihoods.”
Shanta Vallury Gandhi, Head – HR, CSR & Internal Branding, RBL Bank shared her thoughts and aspirations for the women entrepreneurs through a virtual message: ‘We hope this initiative helps maximize the economic empowerment of women and increase their contribution towards the GDP growth of the country.’ In her launch address, Shanta Vallury Gandhi also mentioned that through WeChimni every woman with an aspiration to do business will have a platform to reach their customers. This initiative is a part of RBL Bank’s CSR strategy to create sustainable livelihoods opportunities.
The Chief Guest Shri Dr. Budhajirao Mulik in his keynote address interacted with the women. “Women make progress with the right determination without losing patience in adverse situations. Women have always been making invaluable contributions to the development of society.”
Mr. Ravi Nigam, the founder of Tasty Bite and former President of TiE, Pune guided the women to focus on product and marketing aspects. He advised, “Small businesses can lead to great progress. Customers should be the first priority when starting any business.”
The highlight of the event was the large turnout of women entrepreneurs for the launch.
GTT Foundation is a Non Government Organization and is working on various interventions leading to empowering women for sustainable income generation, career support for segments with socio-economic challenges, transformation of rural solutions through digital innovation.
