SACRAMENTO, Cal. – Gregory Lewis, aspiring podcast host and member of the Moncure family, is raising money for a new podcast venture that will discuss the connection between the first president of the United States and the African American Moncure family. The podcast will dive into the history of the Washington family and trace the lines through ancestry and family relations that connect these distant relatives.
The podcast aims to raise $6,000 to launch the projects in partnership with Voyage Media, a Los Angeles-based production company that supports passionate creators in bringing their creative visions to life, whether it’s on the big screen or through a serialized audio podcast.
The Moncure story begins with a family from Mississippi in 2002, meeting their Caucasian relatives for the first time at a family reunion. From there, the Moncures dove in deeper to discover the roots of their ancestry in America and found intriguing connections to U.S. founding fathers.
The funds raised will be used to help Gregory Lewis and his family to work with Voyage Media to produce “George Washington’s African American Relatives! Podcast.” The podcast will cover topics from connections between the Moncures and George Washington to the relationship between African American heritage and Pharoah Ramesses III of Egypt.
“As I get older, I feel it’s imperative that the story of my family is told and discovered by more people across the United States and beyond,” said Gregory Lewis, organizer of the new podcast. “I want the story of the Moncure family and our relation to our nation’s founding fathers to bring new light to the ways slavery in America has impacted my ancestry from the very beginning of our nation’s history. Sharing this story will be the culmination of years of research conducted by myself and my relatives.”
