SÃO PAULO, Brazil – parentsIN, a Brazil based company, is pleased to announce the launch of its feature-rich digital platform that will connect Moms with relevant professional opportunities and help them return to work after an extended gap in their career. The company is working towards an aggressive goal of assisting 1000 moms get back into the corporate world in the next 3 years.
“Since the pandemic started, millions of women across the world have left the workforce. And many of them have done so because of caregiving responsibilities that have traditionally fallen to women,” says Dani Scalco, founder of parentsIN. “For most of these women, re-entering the workforce after an extended absence is often a difficult path, and the longer they are out, the harder it can be to get back in. We understand the pain of these women and we want to help them get back into the workplace.”
As pandemic restrictions are being lifted, companies across the industries are beginning to hire more staff. However, some recent reports in the media suggest that employers are not able to find enough employees. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce called the worker shortage an “urgent crisis” that threatens to hold back the nation’s economic recovery. Despite all the headlines about increased hiring in various sectors, millions of American women continue to sit on the sidelines. The situation has been especially dire for Black and Latina women, and it has been devastating for many mothers. According to a report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, workforce participation among prime-aged women – those most likely to be raising children has dropped significantly. In an analysis done by the National Women’s Law Center, it has been found that women’s workforce participation rates are at lows not seen since 1988.
A study published in the American Journal of Sociology showed that: women with children were 79 percent less likely to be hired and only half were likely to be promoted. All this while maintaining higher-than-average levels of career ambition and performance, as concluded in a study by LeanIN and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, which found that, over a 30-year career, moms have outperformed childless women at almost all stages of the study.
parentsIn has given a new perspective to woman’s role as a caregiver. During the routine of childcare, women are constantly strengthening their social and emotional skills that are crucial in a highly technical workplace environment. These human skills gained by integrating caregiving and career should be considered a competitive advantage for their professional profile and not a barrier.
“We started empowering moms to look at their work as caregivers from a different perspective and recognized the value of this work as a human capital investment and all the competences they straighten leading caregiving at home,” says Dani. “The next step was helping them to talk openly about these competences and the value of caregiving as human capital investment during job interviews.”
parentsIN also engages employers in this mindset change and together with them they have created MOMsIN, which is the first Latin-American acceleration program focused on connecting re-entering moms to job opportunities. MOMsIN was born with an aggressive goal of bringing 1000 moms back to the workplace in 3 years.
