Cancer is a menace that has ravaged the world for decades. However, awareness for the deadly disease, especially breast cancer, has gained momentum in recent years. With many people beating the disease and going through the life-altering stage of treatments, holding out hope, and actually surviving it, it’s important to get their stories out there. This is what Linda Washington, a breast cancer survivor, has set out to do with her book, song, and profession as a nurse.
The Springfield, Massachusetts-based nurse, singer, and author has leveraged different platforms to tell her story, encourage, send hope, and create awareness about breast cancer. She recently released the Kindle version of her book Forbidden and Broken Finding Love Behind the Scars on Amazon. In the book, she gives her readers a peek into her life and challenges as a cancer patient and the journey to beating the disease. In the book, she talks about her pre-treatment experience, the hopes she had during her treatment, the joy she got from beating the disease and the empty sympathetic looks she gets from people after she was certified clean of cancer.
Linda Washington now works as a nurse, directly involved in the care of other people, and she’s spreading hope through her experience and worldview to give as many people as possible all the strength they need. Her song, “Love Again,” featuring superstar Lamar has received rave reviews from many of her listeners who need hope and uplifting messages to carry on. The song features lyrics that empower all breast cancer patients and remind them that they are as important as any other person regardless of their diagnosis sheet.
The mother of four has gotten many people to her side who now look up to her as a source of inspiration, and she hopes to live up to those expectations. She calls herself a warrior and a fighter who is blessed enough to be a source of light to breast cancer survivors. “I am a breast cancer survivor, and I am trying to help other survivors believe and find love again no matter what they’ve been through,” Linda said. “I struggled with dating right after I beat cancer because many people made me feel less than a woman. I gave up dating for a decade, and that has not changed till now. It’s not something anyone should go through, and I’m going to help as many women as possible out of that,” she added.
Over the next few years, Linda Washington has committed herself to impact women’s lives and make a big difference in their lives. She intends to work with organizations that support breast cancer survivors, be a part of outreach and awareness programs, and support charity organizations focused on cancer. “It’s tough dealing with cancer and even tougher dealing with how people might choose to treat you as a cancer patient or survivor. The awareness is to make everyone feel better, and ultimately make the world a better place for us all,” she noted.
