In recognition of the World Health Organisation’s ‘World Mental Health Day’ (10th October 2021), Regency for Expats has joined the growing number of international organisations raising awareness of global mental health initiatives this month. Regency has taken the practical step of contacting all clients and partners to encourage them to use the free psychology benefits contained within their international private health insurance plans.
Crucial support network
Regency is one of the few insurers to provide psychology benefits completely free of charge to all members. As a specialist expat provider, Regency understands that mental health services are a fundamental requirement for expats who don’t have the support of a traditional network.
Since the pandemic, there has been a steady increase in expats placing their trust in Regency’s counselling service, using it as an opportunity to overcome the mental health issues they have faced, and discuss the problems they continue to face during these difficult times.
75% mental health issues untreated
In 2018, the WHO reported that mental illness costs the global economy US$ 1 trillion a year and 75 per cent of those affected have no access to treatment. As a result, the ‘Special Initiative for Mental Health’ was launched and this year it was followed by the ‘Comprehensive Mental Health Action Plan 2013-2030’, outlining the disparities in mental health treatment across the globe and the initiatives to tackle them.
Johnathan Wright, Director of Regency for Expats says, “As a specialist expat insurer, Regency has a duty to provide expats with the very specific support they require. We are pleased to include comprehensive mental health services as standard under every PMI policy. The stigma of mental illness often prevents people from seeking help, therefore we have taken steps to ensure all clients are aware of our free psychology benefits and that they feel comfortable using them.”
