The logo for the Greater Northern District of Hangzhou, capital of East China’s Zhejiang province, was recently unveiled following rounds of appraisal and review, according to a media release on Oct 10.
Inspired by Chinese seals, the logo was developed based on the landforms of the area. It includes elements of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Channel and the tangram, which is a Chinese game consisting of a square cut into seven pieces that players use to form different shapes.
“Hangzhou is a city that I particularly like and care about. The development of the Greater Norther District and other divisions of Hangzhou is remarkable, and I hope to contribute to the future growth of the city through this design,” said Sun Leipeng, the designer of the logo and a native of Wuhan, Hubei province.
Industrial insiders gave their thumbs-up to the design, saying it features “solid visual effects and balanced structure” and is easy to identify.
According to an official from the government of the Greater Northern District, the contest received 273 works from Shandong, Hunan, Guangzhou, Fujian and Sichuan provinces.
