Los Angeles, CA, U.S.A. – March 12, 2020 – Locally owned fitness company, Battleground Events, is dedicated to raising awareness for autism through their beginner friendly Crossfit competitions.
Founded by Army veteran Cathy Jo Fessagaiga and her husband Ben Fessagaiga, Battleground aims to provide the support, infrastructure, technology, and help with raising funds to contribute to autism support programs. A portion of the funds raised goes directly to the non-profit arm of the business, Train 4 Autism.
In April 2014 Ben, CJ, a few CrossFit coaches, parents, and gym owners set out to create a beginner-friendly fitness competition to raise funds and awareness for World Autism Awareness Month. The event surpassed their modest expectations selling out with over 160 Competitors, drawing over 450 spectators, and over dozen vendors! In 2015 Battleground expanded to a 15,000 sq ft venue and drew an even larger crowd with over 250 competitors, 1,000 spectators, and several official CrossFit Games athletes!
“Battleground SoCal is a culmination of a lot of love and hard work we do every day for our special; needs community,” says Ben Fesagaiga. “It is a vehicle that we use to fund a CrossFit for Special Needs program that has been serving the autism community for the past 13 years as part of Train 4 Autism Foundation.”
Fast forward to 2020, Battleground 2020 is expected to bring out 700 competitors, 4000 spectators, and over 100 vendors. Battleground has sold out every event since its inception and grown year over year. Battleground continues to upgrade professional equipment for a more professional Crossfit Games-like athlete experience and now calls the Dignity Sports Health Park home.
The event will take place Saturday April 25th at 8:00am at the Dignity Sports Health Park.
