Hampton, VA – Known in the photography world as King Legend 757, Deion Campbell has achieved remarkable success since his business, King Legend Photography, was established two years ago. It would be fair to say, in fact, that Campbell has become somewhat of a legend in his field. Referred to as one of the ‘hottest’ photographers on the East Coast by 94.7 Hip Hop Radio, he was named the featured photographer for iHeart Radio 103 Jamz, and has had his photos featured in the Daily Press and Channel 13 news. Campbell is also proud to have received a ‘shoutout’ from Tom Lister Jr. (Deebo from the movie Friday) which received over a million views via the Shade Room on Instagram.
With an eye-catching billboard in the city of Hampton showing Campbell as the local favorite photographer/videographer, he is becoming increasingly well-known in the area. In the course of his work, Campbell has traveled to Miami, Mexico, Las Vegas (on two occasions,) Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., North Carolina, and even the Bahamas. He has taken photos of celebrities such as music producer Lex Luger and hip hop celebrity rappers Shy Glizzy, and Dave East. And as a devoted Philadelphia Eagles Fan, one of the highlights of his career thus far was to take pictures of the team’s Superbowl trophy in their locker room.
“I feel truly blessed to have made it so far in such a short period of time,” says Campbell. “But I will never rest on my laurels, and know that the best is yet to come!”
Campbell also feels the need to give back. He hosts many photographer meet-up events in order to help those starting out in the industry. Additionally, he has written a book: Who Am I?: Life Lessons that will Inspire and Motivate Success!which is available on Amazon.
Campbell’s number one piece of advice for entrepreneurs is that they should believe in themselves.
“Believe in yourself, and get out there and sell yourself. Success isn’t going to come to you handed on a plate. You need to be consistently interacting with people, representing yourself and your brand, and reaching out to your audience.”
Admitting that he didn’t have the easiest upbringing, Campbell says that putting a smile on his face changes everything.
“Don’t get stuck in negative thought patterns. A smile helps change your body language and resets your mind.”
Campbell adds that he is constantly learning from other people.
“I make a point of listening to people, and I learn from their mistakes. Don’t be afraid to change the circles that you move in. Keep an open mind, and have the courage to follow your dreams!”
