Harborview and UW Medical Centers
We will be looking at Harborview and UW together because the two facilities are affiliated. Harborview Medical Center is located at 325 9th Avenue and the UW facility is found at 1959 Pacific Street. Spine and joint surgeries to repair damage from arthritis are among the orthopedic services offered by UW/Harborview. The UWMC-Roosevelt site is an Orthopedic Oncology Center specializing in the treatment of cancers and tumors affecting bones and surrounding tissue.
UW/Harborview has specialists in the field of sports medicine on staff. For 2019-2020 UW/Harborview was rated the best healthcare facility in the Seattle Metro Area. That ranking was by US New And World Report. US News also recognized UW/Harborview for excellence in orthopedics.
Swedish Medical Center
It was mentioned earlier that innovation is one of the criteriums to be scored one of the 100 great orthopedic treatment centers. As an example of that innovation, the first medical facility in the Puget Sound area to perform a partial knee resurfacing (partial replacement) was Swedish Medical Center. Known as MAKOplasty and using a robot arm the procedure eliminates having to perform a total knee replacement when it is not needed.
