Ryan Macdonald, Lead Pastor of The City Church and St. Anthony’s in Batavia, New York, has been featured in a newly released editorial spotlight highlighting his two-decade journey of service, family leadership, and grassroots ministry. The feature offers a fresh look at how local faith-based leadership can inform broader urban strategies, particularly for UK-based community builders and faith leaders.
Drawing connections between Macdonald’s humble beginnings—setting up chairs for church services in his backyard—and his present-day role leading a multi-campus congregation, the article underscores how his principles of consistency, service, and family involvement offer a valuable blueprint for leaders working in diverse and fast-paced environments like London.
“I didn’t plan to be a pastor,” Macdonald says in the feature. “It started with service. I was a kid helping set up for worship on the side lawn. That stayed with me.”
The editorial positions Macdonald’s long-term approach to leadership and his family’s hands-on commitment to community work as a model that transcends geography. His story is especially relevant to UK readers navigating the intersection of faith, entrepreneurship, and local outreach.
“Ministry taught me patience, but business taught me strategy,” Macdonald explains. “If you’re not helping people eat, rest, or grow, what are you doing?”
The spotlight also explores his ability to blend purpose with practical skills, including his interests in real estate and family-led philanthropy—elements that align closely with evolving leadership models in both the US and UK.
“We’re not just here on Sundays,” he adds. “We’re here every day. In the town. In the homes. At the shop. That’s church.”
The feature has been optimised for broad readership, particularly among those seeking sustainable leadership models in faith-based and civic sectors. It highlights Macdonald’s relevance not just to his congregation in Batavia, but to a growing international conversation about relational leadership, generational impact, and community-driven innovation.
