Former NASA scientist turned author Tom Riley unveils his latest novel, Dark Heat (A Sarah and JanetN Mystery), which blends the urgency of climate change with gripping suspense in a near-future setting.
In Dark Heat, Tom leverages his deep expertise in STEM fields and a passion for educating young minds to craft a compelling narrative. The story follows Sarah and JanetN, an unconventional human/AI research team thrust into chaos when a close friend and enigmatic ex-lover disappears under mysterious circumstances. Set against a backdrop of intensified climate disruptions, particularly in Southeast Asia, the novel paints a stark picture of global food insecurity and societal upheaval.
As America grapples with its moral compass amid mounting crises, a ruthless black-market gang seizes control of vital grain shipments meant for devastated regions, jeopardizing countless lives. Sarah and JanetN suspect a link between their friend’s vanishing and the criminal gang’s activities, prompting them to embark on a perilous journey to uncover the truth. Even as they face personal risks, the duo is driven by a sense of duty and justice, with the friend’s family commissioning their services to find closure, if not justice.
Dark Heat not only entertains with its intricate plot and dynamic characters but also serves as a poignant commentary on the profound consequences of climate change and the ethical dilemmas it presents. Tom Riley’s narrative prowess shines through as he navigates through themes of resilience, betrayal, and the quest for redemption in a world on the brink.
For fans of thought-provoking thrillers and speculative fiction, Dark Heat promises a riveting read that challenges assumptions and leaves readers pondering the delicate balance between progress and peril in the evolving world.
