Bay Ridge, Brooklyn – Artist Kristin Reiber Harris has launched her first coloring book celebrating the beauty of nature found in her New York City neighborhood of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The first in a series of coloring books she is producing, the Bay Ridge Coloring Book: Botanical Treasures from the Neighborhood is available on Amazon.
“I’ve always enjoyed finding nature all around us. When I moved to Bay Ridge from my native Virginia, I loved seeing all the diverse plants, flowers, and trees throughout our neighborhood. The coloring book is my way of sharing and celebrating the beauty of Bay Ridge,” says Harris.
The Bay Ridge Coloring Book features 30 beautiful illustrations of plants and flowers. Roses, lilies, hollyhocks, morning glory, black-eyed Susan, and zinnias are among the “coloring adventures” in the book. The drawings range from simple to complex, and each comes with a story on the opposite page. The coloring pages are for a range of skill levels. The coloring book pages are designed for people to decorate any way they want – and display in their home or office.
“I can’t wait to see what people come up with as they enjoy the coloring book. It’s all about collaboration. I especially enjoyed sharing it with my 18-month old grandson. You are never too young or old to make art, and learn about the treasures of the natural world,” says Harris.
Kristin was raised on an old farm in Northern Virginia where she developed her love of the outdoors. During her career, she has expressed her love of nature as a teaching-artist and animator telling stories that help families connect to the wonders of the natural world.
Her prints and drawings have been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums. A devoted arts and environmental educator, she has worked with hundreds of students. Her short animated films have been screened all over the country, and been featured on HBO and PBS.
